FRED & ROSE
The Full Story of Fred and Rose West and The Gloucester House of Horrors
'[Sounes] tells a clear, straightforward tale....
It is a story of obsessive love as well as obsessive murder.'
Paul Barker, The Times
Introduction
In 1994, while working as a newspaper reporter, Howard
Sounes broke major stories in the case of Fred and Rose West, the married
couple who raped, murdered and mutilated young women and girls in the
city of Gloucester, in the west of England.
For the most part, the Wests' victims were sexually
abused, and their bodies cut into pieces. Often evidence of sexual
torture was
found with the remains, which were concealed under the Wests' home
at 25 Cromwell Street, Gloucester, and other locations nearby.
Sounes covered the story extensively for the Sunday and Daily
Mirror and
wrote this bestselling book about the case, first published in Britain
as a paperback by Warner Books (now Time Warner Books,
ISBN 0-7515-1322-9) in 1995, and reprinted many times since, selling
more than a quarter of a million copies.
